Operation principle of methanol cracking hydrogen production catalyst
      After preheating and vaporization, methanol and water enter the methanol cracking reactor. Under the action of catalyst, the following reactions occur :
The whole reaction process is endothermic, so the heat required for the reactor and the vaporizer needs to be provided by the heat medium furnace. The temperature of the recycled heat medium ( heat transfer oil ) is 280 ~ 320 °C. The endothermic cracking reaction and the exothermic shift reaction are carried out simultaneously, which effectively utilizes the reaction heat and eliminates the hot issues that may be brought by the exothermic reaction.
In the hydrogen production by methanol cracking, copper-based catalysts are the earliest studied and the most widely used. Compared with other catalysts ( see Table 1 ), copper catalyst has high activity and good selectivity. However, the anti-poisoning ability is low, and over-temperature is easy to cause sintering deactivation. At present, copper-based catalysts are basically used in China.

       The methanol raw material comes from the storage tank and is mixed with the water from the bottom of the water washing tower in a certain proportion.
It is heated and vaporized by methanol preheater and methanol vaporizer. The vaporized methanol and water vapor enter the tubular reactor, and the following cracking and conversion reactions are carried out under the action of the catalyst.
The process water is sent to the top of the water washing tower through the water pump to wash the cracking gas. After liquid separation, the gas phase at the top of the tower enters the pressure swing adsorption ( PSA ) to purify hydrogen, and the liquid phase at the bottom of the tower returns to be mixed with the raw material methanol ( see figure 1 ). PSA is composed of multiple adsorption towers to continuously separate hydrogen. Its working process consists of adsorption, pressure equalization, reverse discharge, flushing ( or vacuum ), pressure equalization and pressure boosting, and product boosting.
